New infrastructure, new era: How ProCredit Group boosted its resilience and stability

In a world where performance and operational continuity is everything, infrastructure is either your strongest ally or your weakest link. A thorough analysis of business needs, coupled with a review of incidents and events in recent years, has clearly indicated that resilience must be an integral element of digital business design.

About this project:

The primary goal of this project was to enhance the resilience and reliability of the infrastructure supporting centralized operations across ProCredit banks. At the same time, the project aimed to strengthen disaster recovery capabilities by improving the overall response process in the event of a critical incident.

By redesigning the system architecture and introducing key technology upgrades, the project established a solid foundation for more stable, secure, and efficient banking operations across the group.

What was the challenge?

In the past, a single infrastructure issue could ripple across the entire ProCredit Group, disrupting operations for all banks at once, highlighting the need for a more resilient infrastructure. The previous configuration significantly complicated the incident response process, as technicians were required to recover multiple banks across various data centres simultaneously, resulting in extended recovery times. It was time for a smarter, more resilient approach.

The game-changer: a smarter infrastructure design

We reimagined the foundation of ProCredit’s infrastructure. Instead of a centralized, vulnerable setup, we introduced a granular design based on isolated “islands”, with each pair of banks sharing a dedicated infrastructure segment. This shift ensures that if an incident occurs, only one island is affected. Recovery becomes targeted, faster, and more manageable, with no need to bring the entire group back online at once.

What we delivered

Hyper, converged migration: Application servers now run on Nutanix, boosting agility, performance, and scalability.

High-speed storage: Databases were migrated to a Pure all-flash solution, cutting latency dramatically.

Comprehensive system review: Every server and database was audited, optimized, and reconfigured with updated recovery and backup strategies.

Technology upgrades: The entire stack now runs on the latest Microsoft operating systems and SQL Server versions, ensuring maximum performance and supportability.

The results

Significant performance improvements: End-of-day processing times have been reduced by up to 28%.

Latency reduced: Average service times dropped from 10 minutes to just 1 minute, with no spikes above 2 minutes. (Previously, spikes reached 30, 50 minutes.)

No major incidents: Since implementation (September 2024, February 2025), there have been zero major infrastructure incidents across the group.

Automated disaster recovery: With Nutanix, failover between data centers now takes just one click, vastly improving disaster response times and reliability.

What does this mean for you?

For our customers, our partners, and our team, this new infrastructure means faster systems, stronger protection against disruptions, and a stable platform for the future.

ProCredit Group now operates an infrastructure built for resilience, performance, and scalability, and this is just the beginning.
