My Quipu Summer Internship – Vesela, Skopje

My journey with the Quipu summer internship began when a sponsored post caught my attention on my Facebook feed. Coincidentally, I was at the East Gate Mall at the time, where Quipu’s office later relocated. The availability of a Python intern position aligned with my desire to explore and learn different technologies, so I applied immediately.

Having been unfamiliar with Quipu before the interview, I found that the provided information accurately reflected the programme’s reality. Everything mentioned in the interview call was accurate, such as the technologies used, flexibility regarding university assignments, working hours, etc., so I appreciated the transparent and accurate communication.

Prior to starting, my expectations were that I would work and learn in a well-established company and within a clearly structured team with the help of experienced professionals, and I can definitely say that all my expectations were met. I really liked the fact that the internship was part-time. For students in their last year, it’s a great relief to not have to spend a large amount of your time of the day in the office and to be able to also focus on university classes in parallel.

Discussing my internship experience, I really liked the whole approach – I have learned about how a data warehouse functions and how it is connected to a software system, specifically in the context of a banking system. I extend my appreciation to my mentor, Nikola, whose dedication and guidance significantly contributed to my understanding of Python and efficient coding practices. Nikola has been overall amazing and extremely dedicated to helping us with all our tasks. He pushed us to not only complete our assignments, but to do it in the most optimized and efficient way, using clean code and reusability principles. I had experience with Python before the internship, but working here with Nikola brought me even further understanding of how the language works.

Also, the team’s informal communication style resonated with me. I definitely prefer Quipu’s method of work , where everyone has their own assignment and ownership of their code, and maybe 1-2 other people (such as the mentor for example) need to be always informed of the progress, but within informally arranged meetings and calls.

I appreciated in Quipu the relaxed company culture and celebration of various occasions. Everyone is very friendly, there is no dress code or any pressure to look or behave a certain way, and there are many occasions on which people connect and have fun in the office (birthdays, engagements, children’s birthdays, first paycheck, etc.), so you really get the chance to feel you are in a relaxed and familiar environment, and also enjoy sweets quite often.

My positive experience at Quipu makes me recommend both the internship programme and the company in general to my friends and anyone interested, and I am proud to be a part of the team permanently now that my internship has concluded.
